Frequently Asked Questions

Why Choose Direct-to-Film Printing Over Other Methods?

DTF printing offers many advantages in comparison to other methods. While the other methods are still very popular and have great use cases we have chosen to use DTF printing as our primary method of apparel printing.

A few reasons we choose to do so are:

Fabric flexibility: DTF can be used on a wider range of fabrics than other printing methods. Sublimation for example can only be done on polyester type clothing. While direct garment printing works best only on cotton only fabrics. DTF works on fabric such as cotton, polyester, spandex, canvas and more.

No Pretreating of Fabric: In direct garment printing fabric must be pre-treated so that the ink will adhere to the fabric. This acts as a primer and allows a place where the ink can stick when printing. DTF printing does not require this step.

Customizable for print on demand: DTF allows for cost effective small runs of just a single print. This is done without sacrificing print quality or color. Each print can also be customized to include options like unique names for each person of a team without additional need of unique screens being made like would be needed in screenprinting.

How Do You Make A DTF Transfer?

We start with our online designer. There are many preloaded designs available to choose from. We pick a design, pick our favorite apparel product and then send it to our production line.

The production line takes our design and processes it with a RIP software that allows it to work with our professional Direct-to-Film printers. These printers use a transfer PET film and specialized ink to print out the designs. These move to the curing machines where hot melt adhesive powder is applied to the prints and they are cured at over 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

The prints then move to the finishing stage where they are applied to blank apparel via a heat press.

Can I Use A Printer At Home To Make A DTF Transfer?

Kinda...

You can buy a printer like the one you have at home to do DTF prints at home. They will require that you do heavy modification and do not produce the same level of print quality that a professional DTF printer can. DTF printers require special inks and constant maintenance.

If you would like to make your own shirts with your own press you have in your home there are options for just purchasing the DTF prints and pressing your own apparel. We offer individual and gang sheets for users who would like to try this.

I Have A Cricut Machine. How Is This Different?

Cricut machines are for primarily working with cutting materials such as vinyl, paper, fabric and more. It can also draw and write with pens and markers on projects.

Cricut offers a wide variety of iron-on material that you can use their machines to cut and press on with a heat press. Cricut also offers infusable ink that is sublimation ink that can be cut and pressed onto fabrics.

Direct-to-Film is full color images that are printed and heat pressed onto apparel. Unlike with vinyl there is no weeding required. DTF allows for even more customizable designs with less hassle.
